Returns & Warranty

Product Returns & Limited Warranty Policy

Every Obsidian product is fabricated with careful attention to fit, function, and workmanship. Because our products are manufactured and fabricated individually, minor dimensional variation is a normal part of the fabrication process.

Unless otherwise stated in writing, finished dimensions may vary by up to ±1/8 inch from dimensions published on our website or documented on an approved custom order or invoice.

By purchasing an Obsidian product, the purchaser accepts these manufacturing tolerances and the policies below.

Receiving Your Order

We recommend inspecting your Obsidian product as soon as it arrives.

Any visible shipping damage, missing components, or obvious manufacturing concerns should be reported to Obsidian by email within 48 hours of delivery.

Please include photographs of the product and packaging whenever possible.

Issues involving workmanship that could not reasonably have been identified during the initial inspection, including certain weld or structural concerns, may be submitted during the applicable warranty period.

Claims involving obvious damage or shortages reported after the initial 48-hour inspection period may be declined.

Manufacturing Defects & Dimensional Issues

If an Obsidian product is determined to contain a covered manufacturing defect or falls outside the dimensional specifications and tolerances applicable to the order, we will determine the appropriate resolution.

Depending on the circumstances, Obsidian may choose to:

  • Repair the product
  • Replace the affected product or component
  • Issue a refund

When Obsidian confirms a covered manufacturing or workmanship defect, reasonable shipping expenses associated with the approved remedy will be handled by Obsidian.

Returns of Products That Meet Specifications

Because Obsidian products are fabricated to order, receiving a product that meets the advertised or agreed-upon specifications does not automatically qualify the product for return.

Returns, exchanges, or refunds involving products that meet their specifications require prior written approval from Obsidian.

Approval is determined individually based on the circumstances of the order.

Standard Product Returns

A standard Obsidian product purchased through our website may be considered for return even when no manufacturing defect exists.

For example, if the product does not work for your particular setup or you decide you no longer want it, contact Obsidian before returning anything.

If the return is approved:

  • Return transportation is the customer's responsibility.
  • Shipping charges for a replacement product are the customer's responsibility.
  • A 15% restocking fee may be deducted from the refund to account for costs associated with processing, handling, and returning the product to inventory.

Products must satisfy all other return requirements contained in this policy.

Custom Fabrication & Special Orders

Products fabricated specifically for a customer's requested dimensions, configuration, application, or specifications are considered custom products.

Custom products that were manufactured according to the specifications supplied or approved by the customer are generally final sale and non-returnable.

Customers are responsible for verifying measurements, dimensions, clearances, mounting requirements, and other specifications before approving a custom order.

Obsidian cannot guarantee that measurements or specifications supplied by a customer will be suitable for that customer's vehicle, equipment, installation, or intended application.

Exceptions may occasionally be authorized by Obsidian in writing. When an exception is granted for a non-defective custom product, transportation and shipping expenses remain the customer's responsibility.

Return Approval & Product Condition

Do not ship a product back to Obsidian without authorization.

Approved returns will receive return instructions or a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).

Products shipped without authorization may be refused, and any expenses associated with returning the product to the customer may become the customer's responsibility.

Unless the return involves an approved warranty condition, returned products must remain unused and substantially in their original condition.

Products that have been installed, drilled, cut, welded, altered, modified, repaired, painted, coated, or otherwise changed after delivery generally cannot be returned.

Obsidian One-Year Limited Workmanship Warranty

Obsidian stands behind the fabrication of its products.

For one (1) year beginning on the original delivery date, Obsidian warrants its products against qualifying defects in materials or workmanship that existed as a result of the original manufacturing process.

Covered workmanship may include qualifying defects involving:

  • Welded joints
  • Fabricated structural components
  • Materials incorporated into the original product
  • Assembly or fabrication performed by Obsidian

Warranty coverage applies only when Obsidian determines that the failure resulted from a defect attributable to the product as originally manufactured.

Conditions Not Covered

Fabricated equipment is subjected to different vehicles, loads, mounting methods, environments, and operating conditions. For that reason, this limited warranty does not cover every type of product failure.

Warranty coverage does not apply to damage or failure caused by circumstances including:

  • Loads exceeding the product's intended use or capacity
  • Repeated vibration, flexing, or cyclic fatigue
  • Incorrect or inadequate installation
  • Improper mounting, fastening, or structural support
  • Vehicle accidents, impacts, collisions, or dropped equipment
  • Abuse, neglect, or improper operation
  • Corrosion or deterioration caused by chemicals, moisture, road treatments, salt, or environmental exposure
  • Repairs or alterations performed without authorization from Obsidian
  • Drilling, welding, cutting, or structural modifications performed after delivery
  • Ordinary cosmetic deterioration or normal wear
  • Operation outside the product's intended application

Aluminum Fabrication

Aluminum components can experience fatigue when repeatedly exposed to vibration, flexing, and cyclic loading.

Actual service life can vary considerably depending on mounting, installation, load distribution, vehicle operation, road conditions, maintenance, environmental exposure, and how the equipment is used.

These conditions occur outside Obsidian's manufacturing process and therefore cannot be guaranteed under this limited workmanship warranty.

Filing a Warranty Claim

Customers requesting warranty service should contact Obsidian in writing.

The initial claim should contain:

  • A description of the problem
  • Clear photographs showing the affected area
  • Order or purchase information when available

Obsidian may request additional photographs, measurements, documentation, videos, or inspection of the product before determining warranty eligibility.

Warranty coverage and the appropriate remedy will be determined after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the claim.

Available Warranty Solutions

When a claim is approved, Obsidian may select the remedy considered appropriate for the circumstances.

Approved remedies may include:

  • Repairing the affected product
  • Replacing the affected product or component
  • Refunding the applicable purchase amount

Unless required otherwise by applicable law, warranty coverage does not include expenses related to removal, installation, reinstallation, third-party labor, vehicle downtime, business interruption, lost income, or other incidental or consequential losses.

Obsidian will cover approved shipping expenses when they are directly associated with a verified defect covered under this warranty.

Replacement Products & Upgrades

When replacement is selected as the warranty remedy, Obsidian will provide the same product and configuration originally purchased whenever reasonably available.

If the original model, design, or option is no longer manufactured, Obsidian may provide the closest reasonably comparable current version.

Warranty replacement does not provide an automatic product upgrade.

Optional accessories, upgraded components, different dimensions, premium finishes, additional fabrication, or other customer-requested changes may require additional payment.

Authorized Local Repairs

Shipping large fabricated products can sometimes cost more than repairing a minor issue locally.

For that reason, Obsidian may authorize a qualified local welding or fabrication facility to perform an approved warranty repair.

Authorization must be obtained before repairs begin.

Before approving a local repair, Obsidian may request:

  • Photographs of the affected area
  • A written explanation of the failure
  • The proposed repair procedure
  • An estimate from the repair facility

The repair facility must be acceptable to Obsidian and appropriately qualified to perform the required work.

Following completion, Obsidian may require an itemized invoice and photographs documenting the completed repair.

Reimbursement is limited to the amount authorized by Obsidian before work begins. Repairs performed without authorization, or charges exceeding the approved amount, are not automatically reimbursable.

Approved reimbursement may be issued to either the customer or repair facility, depending on the arrangement authorized by Obsidian.

Purchases Through Dealers, Builders & Resellers

Obsidian products purchased through an authorized dealer, reseller, retailer, distributor, or equipment builder remain subject to the applicable Obsidian warranty terms.

However, warranty requests for these purchases must begin with the company or individual that originally sold the product to the end customer.

The original purchasing business will communicate with Obsidian regarding the claim.

When a covered claim is verified, Obsidian will work with that original purchasing party to determine and provide the applicable warranty remedy.

Customers who purchased their Obsidian product through a third party should therefore contact their original seller for warranty assistance.
